Message from the Board of Trustees

Proudly, we recognize the McAllen International Museum as a museum that has and continues to change lives.

In the past 30 years, the Museum has served as a vital force in the educational and cultural growth of over one million people throughout the South Texas and Northern Mexico.

But now, at the turn of the century, the Museum itself must grow in order to successfully meet the needs of the region's burgeoning population.

The New Millennium Campaign has been organized to secure $5.5 million to dramatically expand Museum facilities and programming.  This major public/private partnership initiative includes $3.5 million for capital projects and fees and $2 million for endowment.

Plans call for adding a Children's Discovery Pavilion, a Science Playground, a spacious Museum Plaza, a covered Activity Patio, a Museum Theater, and a Welcome Pavilion.  In addition, the current facility will be renovated to feature a large, new Latin American Gallery and upgraded curatorial an exhibit fabrication areas.

Once completed, this dynamic family learning center will provide the significant cultural and educational resources essential to the continued growth and development of not only the region's young people, but also all of its citizens.

We extend our appreciation to the McAllen City Commission, which has launched the campaign with a $1.7 million investment and to the Junior League of McAllen, which is underwriting the Science Playground.  We now invite you to add your support.

Together we can ensure that the Museum remains a star attraction along the River -- an attraction the enriches the lives of people throughout the Valley in the New Millennium.
