"Dreamings"

Aboriginal Art from Western Australia

An exhibition of contemporary paintings by thirty-three Aboriginal artists who live and work in central Australia's Western Desert.

These hypnotic paintings are based on Aborigine sacred ritual and an unusual concept of time in which past, present and future exist simultaneously.

Through these paintings the artists teach the narrative of a sacred union between places and people, whose daily rituals honor traditional songs, stories and paths through the Australian landscape.

The paintings incorporate complex motifs passed from generation to generation, much like the ceremonial sand and rock paintings of the Native Americans of our own southwest desert."
